¶ Filament Not Sticking to the Build Plate
¶ Adjust the Z-Offset
A strong first layer is critical. It forms the foundation for the entire print. If the first layer does not adhere properly to the build plate, the print may fail.
In the example below, the nozzle is too far from the build plate, preventing proper adhesion.
The following illustration shows correct and incorrect first-layer spacing:
- Left: nozzle too far from the bed
- Middle: correct spacing
- Right: nozzle too close to the bed
¶ How to Adjust
If you see gaps between the first-layer lines, the nozzle is too far from the build plate. You need to reduce the Z-offset, which controls the distance between the nozzle and the build plate.
The best time to adjust the Z-offset is during the first layer of printing:
- Start a print and wait until the first layer begins.
- Tap the Z-offset control on the touchscreen (Z icon).
- Adjust in small increments (start with 0.05 mm).
- Wait about one second between adjustments to see the effect.
- The new value is saved automatically.
¶ Clean the Build Plate
A dirty or greasy surface can cause adhesion problems. Clean the build plate thoroughly before printing.
- PEI build plates: Clean with isopropyl alcohol (IPA) or water. Avoid touching the surface with bare hands.
- Glue stick: A thin layer of non-toxic glue can improve adhesion.
- Hairspray: A light coat of medium-hold hairspray may help in some cases.
