¶ Printing Different Filaments Without QIDI Box — X-Plus 4
This method allows manual filament changes during printing.
Important
- Filament replacement must be performed manually.
- Frequent filament changes are not recommended.
- Use filaments with similar printing temperatures whenever possible.
- Do not combine filaments with significantly different temperature requirements.
¶ Change Filament at Specific Layers
¶ Step 1 — Modify the filament change G-code
- Delete the original line:
G1 E{retraction_distances_when_cut[previous_extruder]} F[old_filament_e_feedrate]
- Add the following code to the Change Filament G-code field:
{if layer_z > initial_layer_print_height}
M0
{endif}
The M0 command pauses the printer, allowing manual filament replacement.
¶ Step 2 — Add additional filament profiles
Add the new filament types in the filament configuration.
¶ Step 3 — Assign filament to specific layers
- After slicing, open the Preview tab.
- Select the layer where filament change is required.
- Assign the desired filament to that layer.
¶ Custom Multi-Filament Areas (Not Recommended)
It is also possible to assign different filaments to specific model regions.
However, this method is not recommended due to frequent manual intervention and increased risk of print defects.
