A skirt is a printed outline around all models on the print bed, printed before the actual models. Its primary purpose is to stabilize the flow of filament through the nozzle and ensure a consistent extrusion.
The skirt is also a helpful tool to check the adhesion of the first layer to the print bed. Since it's printed before the models, you can quickly adjust the Live Z offset if the first layer isn't sticking properly or appears overly compressed by the nozzle.
Defines the number of skirt loops. If the Minimal filament extrusion length parameter is enabled, the number of loops may increase to meet the extrusion requirement.
Set to 0 to completely disable the skirt.
The gap between the skirt and the printed objects.
The number of layers in the skirt. Single-layer skirts are often hard to remove from the heated bed; printing multiple layers is recommended.
Enabling this creates a skirt as tall as the tallest model on the print bed. This feature helps prevent warping in materials like ABS or ASA by forming a microclimate around the print, shielding it from drafts and wind.
Ensures a minimum extrusion amount by increasing the number of skirt loops if needed. For multi-extruder setups, this minimum applies individually to each extruder.
A brim is a single-layer flat extension printed around the base of a model. Its purpose is to improve print adhesion by increasing the surface area between the model and the build plate.
Enhanced adhesion: A larger contact area improves the model's grip on the print bed, which is particularly useful for tall and thin objects.
Edge stabilization: A brim helps bond the model's base edges, especially for materials like ABS that tend to shrink or warp during cooling. A sufficiently wide brim prevents warping by holding the model edges firmly in place.
Recommended Use Cases:
You can set this in Print settings-Skirt and brim-Brim.
Choose to print the Outer brim only, Inner brim only, or both Outer and Inner brim.
Specifies the horizontal width of the brim around each object on the first layer. A minimum width of 3 mm is recommended for optimal adhesion.
Sets the offset between the brim and the model to make removal easier. The offset is applied after the Elephant foot compensation.
